Without effervescent Captain Muscle, we have to toil with 13. Unlucky number but not unlucky outcome. To start with, we decided to "freshen" things up - simple, logical strategy: those with more white hair than YC, played behind him. Those less, upfront or beside. So in came an "experienced" back four. Mel, Rock, Wen & Leng (4 X 44 years old! & plenty of white hair put together). Gan was pushed up to release some pent up $&@#*. Kamar moved to the left (our usual stronghold position! U know what I mean la :-p). And he more than lived up to it & played as if he wasn't fasting.
Off one of those persistent chases down the left, Kamar won the ball and found Gan, whose glorious dummy left Wah with the simplest of tasks to stroke the ball into an empty net. 1-0 & we were in control. Our experienced defence, in the meantime, held up pretty well with only one moment of worry - then again the ever alert Leng came from out of the blue to prevent a certain goal with his superb intervention. At the other end, Dell couldn't cope with our concerted pressure and their failure to clear gave Woon a moment to unleash a magnificent toe poke flyer that dipped over the keeper. 2-0 half time. We were enjoying it, including the half time break.
2H starts off pretty much the same. But the ref gave one of the most dubious penalty decisions ever on this planet, enabling Dell to pull one back. 2-1 and the pressure is on. Our defence, reinforced by Kwan, stood firm. Brandon had one of his most confident days, catching the ball firmly & even launching some quick counter-attacking moves. Khong showed some dragon pull moves to confuse the opponents. But it was left to who else, but Simon to finish off a string of neat passing moves (Kamar to Khong to Wah to Simon) and killing all hopes of any comeback by Dell. 3-1 the final score. After the series of draws & defeats,..... "We undoubtedly did it" indeed!
btw, just look at the numbers for the day!
